MATERIALS + ETHICS.

Imago is committed to quality, transparent communication, + ongoing improvement in our efforts to minimize our negative footprint + maximize our positive socio-environmental impact, to the best of our ability, at every stage of our production + of our brand’s lifecycle.

We believe everyone deserves to know how their products are made + where they come from. Business practices + decisions have deep socio-environmental consequences that affect the planet + all people (especially those who do not have the privileged means to “shop ethically”).

We’ve put together the guide below because we believe in every person’s right to information. By being as transparent + clear as possible about our supply chain, materials, + production, we hope to empower you, as a consumer, to make informed purchasing decisions.

Materials — Jewelry.

  • RECYCLED SILVER.

Products displaying this icon contain a specific amount of recycled .925 sterling silver. (The amount is specified in each product page.)

Sterling silver is a non-renewable resource that is mined out of the Earth. Even when mined responsibly, the processes + chemicals involved in mining this precious metal can be very detrimental to the environment + to the communities involved.

Luckily, silver is also a hardy metal that can be recycled time and time again without loss of quality.

At Imago, we’re committed to using recycled sterling silver wherever possible. We currently use 86% to 100% recycled sterling silver in our jewelry pieces, and are researching ways to eliminate virgin silver from our products altogether.

  • ECO-SILVER.

Some of our products have components made of eco-silver—a mix of 95% recycled + 5% ethically sourced .925 sterling silver. Our eco-silver supplier is a UK-based, EU REACH-compliant family business that employs approximately 15 staff at living wage or above.

The bullion manufacturer in their own supply chain is a certified member of the Responsible Jewelry Council (RJC) (member number: 0000 3591), + is certified by LBMA under The Good Delivery List as a responsible source.

  • ETHICALLY SOURCED SILVER.

Until we find a fully recycled replacement, certain products contain components made of .925 sterling silver sourced from a 100% solar-powered, USA-based facility that uses ethically sourced metals + is certified by the Responsible Jewelry Council (RJC) as an environmentally, socially, + financially ethical business with a responsible supply chain.

Products containing ethically sourced, non-recycled silver (generally in the form of small charms) are labeled accordingly.

  • RECLAIMED ACCENTS.

We locally handpick vintage + pre-loved items to create closed-loop, reimagined pieces just for you. We deconstruct, repurpose, + upcycle these items, letting each of their components speak to us + influence our designs.

These reclaimed accents (which include beads, charms, + more) are limited in quantity, so you will see pieces that incorporate these elements are labeled as Limited Edition. This means that once that style is gone, it’s truly gone for good.

  • SOLAR-POWERED SUPPLIER.

Products containing ethically sourced silver (labeled as such) are sourced from an Arizona, USA-based facility that is 100% solar-powered. This supplier feeds their energy surplus (the “leftover” energy that is not consumed by their facility) back into the local power grid, reducing their energy consumption to net-zero.

Materials — Art Prints.

  • 100% RECYCLED PAPER.

Our art prints are made from uncoated 100% recycled paper + are curbside recyclable. Look to the “Specifications” section of each product page for full paper details (such as paper weight + tone).

Materials — Packaging.

Our packaging is neat, efficient, + minimalist. It is designed to provide protection with a reduced environmental footprint.

Highlights:
100% recycled + plastic-free ✸ Fully curbside recyclable ✸ Rustic-minimalist design.

  • ECO-MAILERS.

    Jewelry is gift-wrapped + packed in a weight-protected, 100% recycled tab-locking box made from 95% post-consumer waste. It ships in a lightweight, tamper-evident, + 100% recycled envelope made from 90% post-consumer waste.

Art prints ship flat in rigid envelopes made from 100% recycled content + 90% post-consumer waste.

All our mailers are curbside recyclable, naturally biodegradable, + made in the USA.

  • ECO-LABEL.

We use shipping labels made from 100% post-consumer waste paper. The label’s liner sheet (or release liner) is made from 100% recycled content, + is curbside recyclable.

  • ECO-STICKER.

Look out for these eco-conscious cuties! The stickers on our packaging are printed with water-based inks on 100% FSC-certified recycled paper; they are compostable + curbside recyclable.

  • POST-CONSUMER CONTENT.

Post-consumer content (a.k.a. post-consumer waste content) is a form of recycled content, + it refers to materials made using recyclable waste generated by consumers. This is the most ecological form of recycled content; PCC reduces the need for virgin materials by creating new goods from items that, having reached the end of their lifecycle, are discarded by consumers through curbside recycling programs.

  • NON-TOXIC INKS.

We prioritize the use of petroleum-free inks with low VOCs, such as water- and soy-based inks. Each of our jewelry boxes + mailer envelopes, for example, is hand-stamped in-house with soy-based inks.

  • PLASTIC-FREE.

We want our packaging to be able to naturally break down in the event that it is not properly recycled. Plastic takes decades to break down, so we avoid it at all costs. Our entire packaging is plastic-free + made from recycled paper content.

  • NATURALLY BIODEGRADABLE.

Our packaging can break down in nature or be composted at the end of its lifecycle, which means it won’t clog our waterways or litter our land.

However, we strongly urge you to recycle paper products like our packaging for the following reasons:

1 — Packaging can contain contaminants such as inks + adhesives that degrade soil + devalue compost.
2 — By recycling, you help give new life to these resources (which would otherwise reach the end of their lifecycle), thus contributing to circular manufacturing + reducing the need for virgin (new) resources.

Recycling is therefore the most ecological option.

Qualification Guide + More.

  • HANDMADE.

This denotes an item made by real human hands in our Miami Beach studio. Handmade items may vary slightly, making each + every piece one-of-a-kind.

  • CARBON-NEUTRAL SHIPPING.

Every single Imago order ships carbon-neutral. This means that all carbon emissions produced in the process of shipping your package to you are offset through eco-positive initiatives (such as reforestation).

Beyond offsetting initiatives, we also take steps to keep our footprint to a minimum from the start. We pack your orders in the lightest, smallest, + most eco-friendly packaging possible, all the while ensuring your goodies arrive safely + in tip-top shape.

  • MADE IN THE USA.

Imago products are made in the USA. To minimize our footprint through reduced shipping distances, we also prioritize domestic suppliers in our supply chain of raw materials, printed products, + packaging.

  • ECO-CONSCIOUS.

This denotes a product that is mindfully produced + packaged using circular materials (such as recycled, reclaimed, or post-consumer content) + processes with a reduced environmental footprint.

  • PLASTIC-FREE.

Imago is plastic-free at its core. Plastic is a petroleum-based material that takes years to decompose, harming wildlife + humans in the process. As it decomposes, it releases toxic substances that pollute our land, oceans, + food + water supplies. It is also commonly + harmfully consumed by animals. (Small fragments tend to end up in their food supplies, + some animals confuse plastic items for food altogether.)

We simply do not use plastic in our products or packaging; the only exceptions are certain reclaimed materials (such as acrylic beads) that are “found” at an advanced stage in their lifecycle, and upcycled or repurposed in our designs.

  • EMPOWERING.

At Imago, we want you to look good + feel your best. We lovingly craft our products with the hope that they will empower you to be 100% you, all day, every day. Products labeled as “Empowering” are pieces we consider to encourage the kindness, positivity, + fierceness we all need to take on the world with strength, compassion, + respect.

  • CURBSIDE RECYCLABLE.

Items displaying this icon are commonly accepted in curbside recycling programs across the country.* They can be processed + used again to produce new goods, which reduces the need for virgin materials, as well as the amount of waste destined for landfills.

When you, the consumer, recycle this item, you give it a chance at a new life as post-consumer waste content!

(*) Always check your city’s recycling guidelines to ensure proper recycling etiquette.

  • SMALL BATCH.

Imago pieces are produced in thoughtfully limited quantities, to avoid waste + keep our company’s footprint to a minimum.
